Man in prison for illegal firearm possession now charged with murder in 2020 shooting — St. Cloud Health news

A man has been charged in connection with a shooting that killed a man over six years ago in Minneapolis. Melvonte Lee Peterson, 35, is currently serving time in prison for illegal firearm possession and was set to be released in early November. Now, Hennepin County has issued a warrant for his arrest in the AUg. 31, 2020 killing of a man at the intersection of 30th Avenue North and Penn Avenue North in Minneapolis. According to Minneapolis Police, officers were called to the intersection where a shotspotter detector had been activated and discovered a man who had been shot in the head and left thigh around 4:23 p.m. While the man was taken to the hospital, he later died from his injuries. Witnesses said they had seen two vehicles, one black and another silver, speed away from the area after the shooting. Surveillance video showed the two vehicles stop at a gas station minutes before the shooting, in which Peterson was seen exiting the silver vehicle before re-entering it.
